In mid-2015 I designed and built a novel 18-camera stereoscopic 360 video rig using Xiaomi Yi cameras. The rig produced high-quality stereoscopic video at a fraction of the cost of comparable stereo rigs at that time, so I published a tutorial site with downloadable plans and instructional videos for anyone to build and stitch their own 18-camera rig. The site got a small amount of traction and led to a job stitching stereoscopic 360 video for a startup in San Francisco; I’ve taken the site down since the information is long-since dated, but I’m proud of that moment in time and have preserved some videos & images below.
